Primary Text: 2 Chronicles 15:7
“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”
For many people, work is simply a means of survival.
We work because bills must be paid.
We work because our families must eat.
We work because school fees are due.
And while these are real responsibilities, is that all work is meant to be? Is work merely a means to an end? Or is it part of God’s purpose for our lives?
Today, let us discover that our work is much more than a paycheck. It is part of our calling.
Work Was God’s Idea
Many people think work is part of the curse. It is not. Before sin entered the world, God placed Adam in the garden “to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15). Work came before the Fall.The curse affected work by making it difficult, frustrating, and exhausting. But work itself remains one of God’s good gifts.
Work Is Stewardship
Everything we have ultimately belongs to God. Our abilities. Our opportunities. Our strength. Our time. Our occupations.
Whether we are teachers, farmers, drivers, engineers, traders, nurses, civil servants, artisans, or business owners…We are first and foremost stewards. God has entrusted work to us.The question is not simply, “What do I do for a living?” It is,”How faithfully am I serving God through what I do?”
Work Is Worship
Paul writes in Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
Imagine what would happen if every Christian went to work believing they were ultimately serving Christ. The teacher would teach differently. The mechanic would repair honestly. The trader would sell fairly. The accountant would reject fraud. The farmer would labour faithfully. The cleaner would work with dignity.
Our work becomes an act of worship when it is offered to God with integrity and excellence.
Purpose Is Greater Than Pay
There is nothing wrong with earning a salary. The Bible teaches that workers deserve their wages. But if money becomes our only reason for working, disappointment will quickly follow.
Purpose gives meaning even when the work is difficult. A believer understands: “I am not just earning a living.I am serving my Lord.”
Be Strong and Do Not Give Up
Our key verse says:”Be strong… do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”
Sometimes work is discouraging.Your efforts go unnoticed. Promotion does not come. Recognition is delayed. You feel overlooked. But Scripture reminds us that God sees faithful labour. Even when people fail to appreciate your work, your heavenly Father never overlooks it.
Excellence Honors God
As Christians, we should not work well only when someone is watching. We should pursue excellence because our ultimate Employer is God. Faithfulness in small tasks prepares us for greater responsibilities. A Christian’s testimony is often seen first in the quality of their work.
Practical Christian Response
Every morning before beginning work, pray: “Lord, today I offer my work to You.”
Then: Work honestly. Work diligently. Keep your promises. Respect those you work with. Avoid laziness. Avoid dishonesty. Encourage others. Remember that your character is part of your witness.Whether anyone notices or not, work as though Christ Himself were your supervisor.
Reflection
Many people ask, “What is God’s purpose for my life?”
Sometimes they imagine it must involve standing behind a pulpit or serving in full-time ministry.
But God’s purpose is often lived out in ordinary places. In classrooms. On farms. In offices. In markets. In workshops. In hospitals. In homes. Every place where honest work is done can become a place where God is glorified.

Closing Thought
The world says, “Work so that you can make a living.”
God says, “Work so that you can glorify Me.”
Your salary may come from an employer. But your calling comes from God.
So, when you step into your office, classroom, shop, farm, factory, or place of business, remember this: You are not merely going to work.You are stepping into another opportunity to serve Christ. Because your work is not just your occupation.
Your work is part of your purpose.
